DPIIT (the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) recognises startups under the Startup India initiative. There is no separate Gujarat version: a startup in Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar or Ahmedabad applies on the same Startup India portal and is judged on the same criteria. For Gujarat founders, what differs is the extra layer of state support that sits on top of central recognition.

Gujarat Startup Policy & State Incentives

Gujarat supports startups through several channels. Each one has its own rules, application route and approving body, and none of them is granted automatically by DPIIT recognition.

Scheme for Assistance for Start-ups/Innovation (Industries & Mines Department)

Under the Gujarat Industrial Policy, the state's umbrella startup scheme has offered seed support, a monthly sustenance allowance (higher where there is a woman co-founder), and support for skill development, acceleration programmes and social-impact startups. Applications go through the state startup portal with a recommendation from an approved Nodal Institution, with approval from the State Level Empowered Committee (SLEC). Scheme terms and amounts are revised periodically, so we confirm the current position with you against official Gujarat government sources before you apply.

SSIP 2.0 — Student Startup & Innovation Policy

SSIP 2.0 comes from the Education Department, Government of Gujarat. It supports student and young innovators through pre-incubation at educational institutions, IP facilitation, and the Startup Srujan Seed Support (S4) grant programme. We check current cohort availability and grant terms with you before applying.

i-Hub Gujarat

i-Hub (the Gujarat Student Startup and Innovation Hub) in Ahmedabad is the state's innovation and incubation hub. It implements SSIP programmes and runs incubation and acceleration support for startups.

Is there a separate Gujarat application for Startup India recognition?

No. DPIIT recognition is a central process and works the same way across India. Gujarat runs its own startup support schemes on top of it. These have separate applications, eligibility rules and approving bodies.

What state-level startup support does Gujarat offer?

Under its industrial policy, Gujarat has run an umbrella Scheme for Assistance for Start-ups/Innovation. Does DPIIT recognition automatically give the 80-IAC tax exemption?

No. 80-IAC requires a separate application to the Inter-Ministerial Board, and only Private Limited Companies and LLPs can apply. DPIIT recognition is the prerequisite, not the approval.
